I'm trying to watch TV from my laptop but the DSL is too slow.?

I'm trying to watch videos on my TV from my computer, but the internet speed is too slow. My laptop is on a wireless network, and I'm on SBC Global. Should I get a longer cord and plug into the main computer & watch it that way, or is there a way to speed up my internet connection?
