I've noticed a lot of uninformed theists make statements that are untrue of the sciences...?

Understanding is a pre-requisite to accepting. There are those that do not desire knowledge because they fear it will challenge their preciously held beliefs. These are the ones who get their science news from Answers in Genesis or Dr. Dino. If hey are unwilling to learn, it is not our responsibility to teach.
