How to install software in Linux from *.tar.gz file?

I am a newbie in Linux. I've installed Fedora Core 6 in my PC. Firefox 1.5.0.7 comes with it. I want to unstall it and install Firefox 2.0.0.3, which I downloaded from Mozilla site in *.tar.gz format. How can I unstall and install these softwares? Please help with details.
